After closing out her playing career with the Comets and volunteering with the team for two seasons, Sarah Morales was officially named the full-time assistant coach for the UT Dallas softball team in the summer of 2019.
A native of Plano, Morales played with the Comets for two seasons, helping guide the program to its only American Southwest Conference championship in 2017. Morales would earn her bachelor's degree in Child Learning and Development from UTD in 2017 and went on to collect a master's degree in Recreational Events and Sports Management from North Texas one year later.
As a volunteer assistant coach for the Comets, she has played a vital role in game day preparation while serving as a mentor for current Comets. Morales assisted in running practices for the Comets and served as equipment manager for the program.
Since her playing days, Morales has served not only as a volunteer assistant coach for the Comet softball program, but also as an intern in the UTD Athletics Department. Off the field, she has assisted the Comet staff in hosting several ASC and NCAA championship events and supported game day operations for all 14 Comet varsity sports.
Morales began her career as a student-athlete at Newman University, twice earning a spot on the Dean's List while playing two seasons with the Jets. She transferred to UTD prior to the 2016 campaign and would appear in 40 games over her two years with the Comets, making 19 starts for the squad as a junior. As a senior, Morales was honored with the program's Comet Award.
While at UNT, she served as a graduate assistant for the Mean Green women's basketball team while completing her master's degree.
Morales has been an active member in the NCAA in her little time beyond her playing career. She was a participant in the NCAA DIII Immersion Program in 2018 and has attended the NCAA Convention in both 2018 and 2019. Morales was involved in the 2018 Career Next Steps Program and in the 2018 Career in Sports Forum. She was selected as a participant in the 2019 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar.
