Dawn Wiedeman has shown versatility as a member of the UTD softball team in her first two seasons, playing several positions and even pitching for the Comets. Will be called on to use that versatility again in 2009, possibly filling a void at the important shortstop position. Will be counted on to regain the offensive potential she showed as a freshman in 2007.

Wiedeman hit .264 last season, playing in 28 games with 23 starts. Her power numbers (1 home run and two doubles) dropped slightly from an impressive 2007 freshman season, when she hit .322 with 11 extra-base hits that included  four home runs. She was named honorable mention American Southwest Conference All-East Division in 2007. She drove in 16 runs in 2007, and was an ASC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Also made six pitching appearances near the end of 2007 and pitched 11.0 innings with 2 strikeouts and just 11 walks. Posted a 1-0 record with a 5.73 ERA.

2009:

HIGH SCHOOL: Played four sports (softball, volleyball, basketball and golf) in high school, where she was also a cheerleader and active in a number of student organizations. Was twice a team MVP, and was the district's MVP as a senior, twice earning all-district recognition as a catcher. Was the high school league's Rookie of the Year as a freshman third baseman in 2003. Her high school team was undefeated all four years, and continued a streak of nine straight undefeated seasons.
