Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (09.10.11) – The UT Dallas men's soccer team didn't quite pick up its first win ever against national powerhouse Trinity University, but they broke a 12-game winless streak against the Tigers with a stellar defensive showing and a 1-1 double overtime tie.

Sophomore
Mark Brooks rocketed a freekick toward the top of the net from about 25 yards out to tie up the score. Brooks' shot was originally stopped by Trinity keeper Tim Nelin, but he bobbled the ball and stepped back inside the goal line while trying to recover control.
The tie broke a 12-game winless streak for the Comets (2-0-1) against the Trinity in a series that dates back over a decade.

The goal earned a reprieve for a UTD defense that stopped a relentless Trinity offense that outshot the Comets, 18-8, and forced keeper Steve Nicknish to make nine saves.
Sparked by the momentum of the game-tying goal, the Comets (2-0-1) came very close to taking a lead about five minutes later when a header from
Eric Holland off a Brooks free kick bounced up off the ground and hit hard on the underneath part of the crossbar.
The Comets gave up ball control to the Tigers much of the night, but continuously clamped down deep in their own zone to thwart Tiger scoring opportunities. The Comets had just two shots on goal all night.
The overtime tie was the second in two nights for the Tigers, who came to town with a 3-0 mark and the nation's No. 1 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III national poll. Trinity was also shocked by American Southwest Conference member Hardin-Simmons on Friday night with a 1-1 draw. The Comets won their Friday overtime game, 1-0, over Southwestern University. Southwestern defeated HSU, 4-3, in the opening game Saturday on the UTD Soccer Field.
