Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas (09.07.12) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team has had its battles with national powerhouse Trinity University over the years, but the Tigers always seem to find a way to keep the Comets out of the win column.
Friday night, the unbeaten Tigers (4-0), ranked at the top of the latest national poll, did it again, scoring early in each half to post a 2-0 win over UTD (1-2).
Despite giving up the two goals, the Comets survived a 22-shot attack from Trinity and managed just one shot on goal in the game - a first-period scoring opportunity by
Robert Lopez. Meanwhile, UTD goalkeeper
Steven Nicknish was able to save nine more scoring chances by the Tigers.
Trinity jumped out front just 2:12 into the game when Yuri Riberio found Denny Mask for the first goal of the game. The Comets were able to stave off any further damage the first 45 minutes despite an 11-3 deficit in first-half shots.
The Tigers then got the all-important second goal nine minutes into the second period. Riberio again came up with the assist, feeding Darren McAfee to make it 2-0.
UTD meets Southwestern University at 5 pm Saturday on the Trinity campus.
