RICHARDSON, TX (10.23.14) - Freshman
Millie Atkins found the back off the net from the top of the box off an Alissa Bruch corner kick in the 79th minute Thursday night, leading the No. 23-ranked UT Dallas women's soccer team to a 1-0 American Southwest Conference win over Howard Payne.
The Comets (now 11-2-1, 5-0-1 ASC) remained in the ASC regular-season title chase with the win despite limited offensive opportunities. UTD managed just two shots on goal in the contest, both in the second half, despite out-shooting the Lady Jackets, 16-7, for the match. The Comets' other shot on goal came in the 55th minute on a point-blank shot by
Carli Beckett that was saved by HPU keeper Kelsie Piland.
Samantha Huston's rebound shot off the save was waived off due to a controversial offsides call.
UTD keeper
Macaire Ament had to make just one save against the Lady Jackets (6-7-1, 1-4-1 ASC).
Carli Beckett and
Sarah Borg led the Comets with three shots apiece.
UTD next has a 1 pm showdown Saturday afternoon with 22nd-ranked Hardin-Simmons, which lost a match with league leader UT Tyler last week.
