No. 20 Comets Roll Through Second ASC Crossover Event

TYLER, TX (10.17.15) - The No. 20-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team extended its winning streak to 13 straight matches after earning three wins over the weekend at the second of two American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournaments of the season. This weekend's event is hosted by Texas-Tyler.

The Comets (now 20-2, 8-0 ASC) opened the event with a with a 3-1 win over Hardin-Simmons before wrapping up day one with a 3-0 victory over McMurry. UTD closed out play Satuday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Sul Ross State. The Comets return to action Tuesday night when they host ASC East rival East Texas Baptist at 7 p.m.

UTD 3, Hardin-Simmons 1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18)
UTD struggled offensively throughout the match, hitting just over .200 as a team, but found a way to rally and keep a clean slate in ASC play. The Comets hit just .037 in the opening stanza en route to a 25-17 loss to HSU, collecting 12 kills compared to 10 errors. UTD bounced back in the second set, thankfully, earning a 25-19 win over the Cowgirls, hitting .162 as a squad. The third set saw the Comets pull away early and then have to hold off HSU for a 25-22 decision. UTD improved considerably by hitting .341 as a team. UTD would then run away with the fourth set, hitting .308, for a 25-18 win.

Junior Holyn Handley and Michelle Toro each finished the match with 18 kills while Abbie Barth had 13 kills. Senior setter Kayla Jordan dished out 45 assists, just over 11 per set, while freshman libero Fayna Zeng had a match-high 34 digs. Toro also had 10 blocks for the Comets.

UTD 3, McMurry 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14)
Jordan flawlessly managed the Comet offense, dishing out 41 assists in a a 3-0 sweep of the WarHawks. UTD hit .315 as a team for the match as it handled McMurry in under an hour.

Toro and Handley each finished with a team-best 12 kills while Kristyn Schott came off the bench for 10 kills. Zeng finished with 17 digs.

UTD 3, Sul Ross State 0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-10)
The Comets needed just 52 minutes to dispatch SRSU, hitting .284 as a squad, in the quick 3-0 victory. Emma Wallbrown led the UTD offensive attack with 12 kills while hitting .611 for the match. Toro ended the contest with eight kills and four blocks while Barth added six kills and 16 digs. Jordan finished with 26 assists while Zeng had a match-high 19 digs.

The Lobos hit -.009 for the match, collecting just 15 kills and making 16 errors in the contest.
