RICHARDSON, TX (10.31.15) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 home win over Belhaven.
The Comets (now 13-7) got a pair of goals from junior
Megan Mugavero, one in each half, and added tallies from freshmen
Jacqueline Kaufman and
Jessica Rusk as UTD collected its seventh shutout of the season. UTD finished the contest with 27 shots, 16 on goal.
Kaufman opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as he scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season from five yards out after a pass from teammate
Laurel Hansen. Mugavero would then give the Comets a 2-0 advantage at the break with a goal past a diving keeper in the 36th minute, assisted by
Kat Civitillo. In the second half, Rusk scored off a rebound from a
Millie Atkins' shot in the 53rd minute and Mugavero added an unassisted goal in the 68th minute.
Senior keeper
Macaire Ament made five saves in her first start of the season, playing the full 90 minutes in goal. Mugavero led UTD with five shots, all on goal, while Civitillo had four shots.
For Belhaven (now 5-10-1), keeper Alexis Moreno made 12 saves and gave up all four goals. The Blazers finished with 10 shots, five on goal, with Ashley Harber leading the team with three shots.
The Comets will open the postseason Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament, against an opponent yet to be determined. Game time will be 5 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
