RICHARDSON, TX (11.06.15) - The No. 15-ranked Comets are headed to the title match of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament for the sixth time in program history after a 3-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 32-30, Friday night.
The Comets (now 29-2) will be playing for their third-ever ASC crown Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined. Reigning ASC champion UMHB (now 18-11) will play at 11 a.m. Saturday in an elimination match against Concordia Texas to get back to the title game for the second straight season.
After a quick 25-12 win in the opening set, UTD had to struggle to get ahead after a 25-22 win by the Cru in the second set to level the match, 1-1. The Comets would then use five blocks and a .244 team hitting percentage in the third set to take back control before a marathon 32-30 win in the deciding fourth stanza.Â

Holyn Handley led four Comets in double-digit kills with 14 put aways, while adding 15 digs and four blocks. Juniors
Abbie Barth and
Michelle Toro each added 13 kills while freshman
Kristyn Schott finished with 11 kills and a match-best 24 digs. Senior setter
Kayla Jordan, the NCAA Division III leader in assists per set, dished out 55 assists (13.75 per set), and pitched in 10 digs, five blocks and four aces. The Comets collected a season-high 15 total blocks, led by Toro's 10 rejections.
The Comets finished the contest hitting .215 as a squads, amassing five service aces. UMHB hit just .110 for the match.
In other ASC Tournament action, Texas-Tyler opened the day with a 3-1 win over Hardin-Simmons in an elimination match. Concordia Texas edged East Texas Baptist, 3-2, also in an elimination match. Concordia stayed alive with a 3-1 win over UT Tyler late Friday night to advance to Saturday's 11 a.m. match against UMHB.
