FRISCO, TX (02.15.15) - The UT Dallas baseball team wrapped up its three-game weekend at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark with a 9-2 loss to Hendrix Sunday afternoon.
The Comets (now 2-5) fell behind early, giving up four runs in the 1st and two more in the 2nd, and could not recover.
Hendrix (now 3-1) opened the scoring with two-run singles by both Wyatt Hogan and Jake Wiegland as the Warriors collected four 1st-inning hits off of UTD starter Jake Hanson. Hendrix added two runs in the 2nd on an RBI ground out and another Hogan RBI single.
UTD plated a pair of runs in the 8th on a sacrifice fly by
Brandon George, scoring
Jimmy Norris, followed quickly by a solo home run by
Nolan Smith, his first of the year. However, the Warriors answered with two runs in the 8th on a Drew Judson single followed by a UTD error and their final run on a Matt Simmons sacrifice fly.
Hanson (0-1) was handed the loss, giving up three earned runs on 11 hits in 5.0 innings of work. Reliever
Brandon Lee allowed one earned run on three hits over a 3.0-inning outing. The Comets finished with eight hits off of four Hendrix pitchers with
Haden Johnson going 2-for-4 with a 9th-inning double.
The Comets will return to action next weekend as the host East Texas Baptist for the start of American Southwest Conference play. UTD will have its home opener Friday at 2 p.m. before hosting the Tigers for a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
