IRVING, TEXAS (02.08.15) - The UT Dallas softball team started its 2015 season off on the right foot Sunday afternoon, sweeping a road doubleheader across town at The University of Dallas, 8-4 and 9-1.

Sophomore pitchers
Sara Davison and
Lauren McLeod both picked up wins in their season debut for the Comets (2-0). Davison went six innings in the opener, giving up four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts. McLeod gave up just one run on five hits in her five-inning start in Game 2, striking out four Crusaders (1=3).

Brad Posner made full use of his roster, working 20 players into the doubleheader with multiple substitutions.

The Comets (2-0) pounded out 22 hits in the sweep, including seven doubles and a triple by
Sara Navarro in Game 1. Senior
Avery McHugh had five hits, including three doubles, and scored four runs.

GAME 1: UTD 8, UD 4Â
The Comets broke the game open with six runs in the 2
nd and 3
rd innings, building an early 6-0 lead and then withstanding a late charge by U. Dallas.

UTD got an RBI fielders' choice from McHugh to bring home Navarro with the game's first run in the 2
nd. McHugh then tacked on another run on an RBI double from
Chelsea Sartor.

In the 3
rd, the Comets put together four hits. Junior transfer shortstop
Taylor Jensen doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Navarro later delivered an 2-RBI triple to score
Jonelle Feikis and
Jordan Bratcher.
Morgan Anderson then drove home Navarro and UTD was in control.

The Comets it made it 8-1 in the top of the sixth when Anderson walked and later scored on a McHugh double and throwing error. Sartor then brought McHugh home with the final run.

Davison ran out of gas in the 6th after surrendering just four hits through the first five innings. The Crusaders made things interesting with a three-rally to cut the lead to 8-4, but
Megan Aragones came in to toss the 7
th inning and got a strikeout and two ground balls to end the game.

GAME 2: UTD 9, UD 1McLeod and
Taylor Nabors combined to limit the Crusaders to just six hits and a single run while the Comet bats pasted UD starter Elizabeth Symanski with 12 hits.

UTD got on the board in the top of the 1
st with McHugh getting the first of two doubles in the game, then scoring on a wild pitch. Â McHugh started off a two-run 3
rd inning with another double,
Aly Hudec scored on a ground out and
Taylor Ervin made it all the way around the bases on an errant throw.

The Comets added single runs in the 4
th and 5
th with McHugh and
Heather Gilbert driving in runs. UTD then put it out of reach with a three-run 6
th with one run scoring on a Crusader error and two more coming home on wild pitches. Sartor drove in the final run for UTD in the 7
th.

Nabors came in to pitch the final two innings for UTD, shutting out the Crusaders on just one hit.

UTD opens its home schedule next weekend with a three-game American Southwest Conference series against Louisiana College. The two teams will play a doubleheader Friday at 2 pm.Â
