UT Dallas Rolls To 16-6 Win To Open Series At Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, AR (04.10.15) - The UT Dallas baseball team continued its hot hitting as the Comets cruised to a 16-6 win over Ozarks to open an American Southwest Conference weekend series Friday afternoon.

The Comets (now 16-13, 12-7 ASC) extended their winning streak to five games while topping double-digit runs and hits (season-high 18) for the fourth consecutive contest. The two teams will wrap the series with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

UTD took little time setting the tone in Friday's opener with four runs in the 1st and grabbing an 8-0 run by the 4th frame. Brandon George lit up the Eagles by going 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored while Kaleb Robinson got in the action with a 3-for-5 outing with four RBI and a run scored.

The Comets opened the scoring with an RBI double by George, scoring Jimmy Norris, in the 1st and then got a Robinson two-bagger, scoring George, two batters later. UTD added RBI singles by Haden Johnson and Ryan Downs to take a 4-0 lead after the Comets' first at bat. In the 2nd, George snagged his second RBI of the afternoon with a ground ball to shortstop, again plating Norris. In the 4th, UTD used an RBI ground out by Tim Cole followed by a two-run homer by George to secure an 8-0 advantage. The long ball was George's team-leading fourth of the season.

After giving up an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd, UTD responded with two runs in the 6th on a sacrifice fly by Wesley Gill and a two-run single by Robinson. Leading 11-2 after the 6th, the Comets tacked on another run in the 8th and four final runs in the 9th. In the 8th, Robinson lifted UTD to a 12-2 cushion with another RBI single. Cole added a two-run double in the 9th, followed by an RBI single by George and a pinch-hit run-scoring ground out by Matthew Young.

The host Eagles (now 6-19, 3-14 ASC) would open the bottom of the 9th with four straight hits and scored four runs to complete the scoring.

Tyler Dauer (5-3) tossed six strong innings, giving up on earned run on six hits. He struck out six and walked one.Andrew Leilich took over to start the 7th and pitched into the 9th before giving up four runs on five hits in the final frame. Micah Easterling recorded the final two outs of the game.
