CLARKSVILLE, AR (04.25.15) - The UT Dallas softball wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader split at Ozarks in American Southwest Conference play. The Comets dropped Saturday's opener, 8-3, before bouncing back for an 11-2 win in the series finale. UTD claimed Friday's series opener, 9-2.
The Comets improved to 16-19 overall and finished ASC play with a 12-17 mark after taking 2-of-3 games from Ozarks over the weekend. However, UTD will not learn its playoff fate Sunday afternoon as Concordia Texas and LeTourneau conclude their three-game series in Longview. With a CTX win, the Comets would advance to the ASC Tournament for the third straight season.
GAME 1 - Ozarks 8, UTD 3The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 4th, but Ozarks answered with eight runs over the next three frames to pull away for an 8-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader.
In the top of the 3rd,
Morgan Anderson plated the first run of the game as she single to left field, scoring
Chelsea Sartor. UTD added another run in the 4th on a solo home run by
Sara Navarro, her second of the weekend. However, host Ozarks responded with two runs in the bottom of the 4th, four in the 5th and two final runs in the 6th to snag an 8-2 cushion. The Comets tallied a single run in the top of the 7th on a second Anderson RBI single, but left to runners on base.
Sara Davison (6-7) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings in the circle. Davison struck out four and walked two.
Taylor Nabors completed the game, allowing one earned run on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Taylor Jensen was 2-for-2 while Anderson finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI.
GAME 2 - UTD 11, Ozarks 2UTD scored three runs in the 1st and never looked back as the completed the series with Ozarks with a 11-2 win in the finale Saturday afternoon.
The Comets used four hits and a pair of Lady Eagles errors in the opening frame to set the tone. UTD opened the scoring as
Avery McHugh and
Jessica Ramos both came home on a a two-out Ozarks throwing error. The Comets later added a run on a Navarro infield single, scoring Jensen.
Leading 3-1 in the 3rd, UTD added a run with a Jensen solo home run, her sixth of the season, and then tacked on another run in the 4th on an RBI ground out by Ramos, scoring
Taylor Ervin. The Comets conceded a run in the 6th before exploding for six runs in the top of the 7th. UTD used an RBI double by Ervin, a two run single by
Jordan Bratcher and a three-run bomb by Ramos to complete the scoring. The home run was also Ramos' sixth of the season.
Lauren McLeod (6-10) picked up the victory, giving up two runs on three hits in 6.0 innings. She struck out eight and issued one walk.
Megan Aragones tossed a clean 7th, giving up one hit. Jensen went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while
Jonelle Feikis was 2-for-4 and both Bratcher and Ramos were 2-for-5.
