Volleyball Earns Two Wins On First Day Of Northwest Trip

TACOMA, WA. (09.11.15) - The UT Dallas volleyball extended its winning streak to five matches Friday night after picking its second win of the day, a 3-1 victory over Lewis & Clark, at a tournament hosted by Puget Sound.

The Comets (now 6-1) opened the weekend with a 3-0 win over host UPS before knocking off the Pioneers late Friday. UTD will wrap up the weekend Saturday against Linfield (12 p.m.) and Pacific Lutheran (4 p.m.), both matches being played on the campus of PLU.

MATCH 1 - UTD 3, Puget Sound 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-12)
Holyn Handley led the efficient Comet attack with a match-high 10 kills, hitting .208, with 10 digs and a block. Michelle Toro and Fayna Zeng each added eight kills while, Emma Wallbrown finished with four kills. Setter Kayla Jordan had 24 assists, 8.0 per set, while libero Abbie Barth ended the match with 19 digs.

The Comets picked up their fourth straight win by hitting .200 as a team against UPS. UTD finished with seven total blocks and a season-best eight service aces.

MATCH 2 - UTD 3, Lewis & Clark 1 (23-25, 25-9, 25-20, 25-23)
After dropping the first set, the Comets rallied with three bigs wins to bounce back and earn the 3-1 win over Lewis & Clark. Handley again led UTD with 16 kills, hitting .143, and added 10 digs, six blocks and an ace. Michelle Toro added 15 kills, hitting .367, with two blocks. Kristyn Schott rounded out the Comets in double figures with 10 kills.

Jordan had another impressive match setting the ball, finishing the contest with 47 assists, better nearly 12.0 per set, and added 21 digs and two kills. Barth match Jordan's match-high with 21 digs as well. As a team, UTD hit .196 and had nine total blocks and six aces.
