RICHARDSON, TX (09.02.15) - Senior setter Kayla Jordan tied the Comets' all-time assist record as she led the UT Dallas volleyball team to a season-opening 3-0 home win over Wiley Wednesday night. UTD downed the Wildcats, 25-15, 25-6, 25-19.

Jordan finished the sweep with 34 assists, averaging more than 11 per set, and now has 3,872 career assists, matching the career mark former two-time UTD All-American Niki Calverley. Jordan controlled the Comet offense all night as UTD finished the quick match hitting .305 as a team, making just 10 total errors in the three sets.

The Comets came out swinging in the opening set, hitting .400 as a team, with Holyn Handley leading the way with five kills and Meredith Crawford adding four kills in the opening frame. UTD spread the wealth in the second frame as six different Comets finished with two kills and hit .333 as a team. Wiley challenged the Comets in the third set, but UTD pulled away late as Crawford and Emma Wallbrown each contributing five kills.

Crawford ended the night with a match-high 11 kills, hitting .321, while Handley and Wallbrown each added seven kills. Abbie Barth led UTD with 13 digs while Shelby Walker had six blocks for the Comets.

UTD returns to action this weekend with four matches in Georgetown. The Comets open the weekend against Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. Friday and will play Millsaps at 4 p.m. later that day. On Saturday, UTD will face Whitworth (10 a.m.) and Illinois Wesleyan (2:30 p.m.) before returning home.
