RICHARDSON, TX (09.06.15) - With the heat index well over 100, the UT Dallas women's soccer team handled the weather and Mount Saint Mary Sunday afternoon, earning a 3-0 win in non-conference play.
The Comets got goals from three different players and held MSM to just six shots as they improved to 3-0 for the second straight season. UTD will look to extend its winning streak Wednesday with the Comets visit the University of Dallas in another non-conference affair. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Irving.
Freshman
Jacqueline Kaufman opened the scoring for the Comets in the 9th minute as she stole the ball from a Knight defender near midfield and streaked all alone into the box before beating MSM keeper Mary Riley to give UTD a quick 1-0 lead. Freshman
Tori Edge doubled the Comet lead just 1:01 before the break as she accepted a perfect cross from the right from teammate
MaKayla Forsberg and bat Riley from five yards out. The Comets' final tally came in the 74th minute when sophomore
Millie Atkins headed in a ball off a left side pass from
Amanda Avalos. It was the first goals of the season for all three Comets.
UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa made five saves on the afternoon while pitching her second shutout of the season. UTD finished with 21 shots, 12 on goal, with 13 different players recording at least one shot.
Rachel Mullen and
Megan Mugavero each took three shots.
For MSM (now 2-1), Allison Jones and Maeve O'Sullivan each took two shots. Riley made nine saves in a full 90-minute outing.
