RICHARDSON, TX (10.14.16) - The nationally-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team gave Coach
Marci Sanders her 300th career victory Friday night, opening the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Concordia Texas.
The Comets (17-1, 8-0 ASC) dominated the Tornados (8-12, 4-8) for a 25-12, 25-12, 25-19 victory. Sanders is now 300-105 since beginning the program in 2004.
The Comets hit .302 for the match, putting down 43 kills with only 11 errors. Freshman
Dylan Brinkman led the onslaught with 14 kills as well as two service aces and 8 digs.
Michelle Toro had nine kills with just two errors (.438) and
Lauren Schilling,
Abbie Barth and
Holyn Handley added five each.
Setters
Fayna Zeng and
Caroline Shecterle combined for 28 assists in the quick match while
Briana Tully led the way with 13 of the team's 51 digs.
The Comets now get ready for a challenging Saturday schedule at the tournament, meeting the top two teams in the West Division standings. UTD plays Hardin-Simmons at 10 am, then faces Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6 pm.
