RICHARDSON, TX (11.15.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team drained 12 three-pointers as the Comets earned a 78-50 home win over non-conference rival Austin College Tuesday night at the UTD Activity Center in the season-opening game for both teams.
Senior guard
Alyssa Crockett scored a game-high 17 points while adding team-best six rebounds along with four assists and two steals as 12 players scored for the Comets. UTD shot 45.5 percent from the field for night and went 12-of-28 (42.9%) from three-point range in the 28-point victory.
The Comets (1-0) return to action Friday when they face Rose-Hulman at 6 p.m. Friday in Greencastle, Ind., in a tournament hosted by DePauw.
UTD rolled out to a 28-10 lead after the first quarter, hitting 6-of-8 treys as a team in the opening frame. The Comets would take a 50-19 lead into the locker room, riding Crockett's 13 first-half points. The Lady 'Roos (0-1) used a 16-9 third frame to pull within 30 points heading into the fourth quarter and outscored UTD by 10 points in the final frame to cut the deficit to under 30 points by end of the night.
Crockett was 7-for-14 from the field, hitting three three-pointers, while
Victoria Pena came off the bench for 10 points as the only other Comet in double digits.
Zavier Landry,
Micaela Gonzalez,
Kayla Reinhart and
Kendall Festervand each added eight points. Landry dished out five assists and had three steals.
The Comets held AC to just 35.2 percent shooting on the night and limited the Lady 'Roos to 4-of-20 shooting from three-point range.
