Comets Edged By Rose-Hulman to Open DePauw Tipoff Tournament

GREENCASTLE, IN (11.18.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team hit a pair of three-pointers in the final 30 seconds of the game, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback as the Comets fell to Rose-Hulman, 55-53, Friday night to open the DePauw Tipoff Tournament.

The Comets (1-1) will next play at 2 p.m. Saturday against the loser of Friday's game between host DePauw and Birmingham-Southern. Rose-Hulman (1-0) will face the winner of that contest at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Senior guard Alyssa Crockett scored a career-high 24 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Comets' narrow loss. Crockett was 7-for-11 from the field and 9-for-11 from the foul line as she led UTD in scoring for the second straight game.

Trailing 40-35 heading into the fourth quarter, the Comets used a pair of free throws by Crockett early in the frame to cut back within three points. With 4:52 left to play, Kayla Reinhart knotted the game, 45-45, on a pair of free shots, notching the Comet's first tie since going to the locker room, 26-26. However, RHI would regain a five-point lead with 35 seconds remaining, 52-47.

McKenzie Petty drew the Comets back within a pair on UTD's next trip down the floor with her only three-pointer of the night. The Fightin' Engineers answered with 3-of-6 free throws over their next three possessions, retaking a five-point cushion, 55-50. Reinhart would again give the Comets late hope with six seconds left with her only trey of the game. RHI's Alyzia Dilworth then missed two free throws with four seconds on the clock, but the Comets could not get the game-winning shot off before the buzzer.

Crockett was the only Comet in double-digit scoring but Micaela Gonzalez ended the night with seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
