No. 3 Comets Bounce Back With 3-0 Win Over East Texas Baptist

BELTON, TX (11.05.16) - After suffering just its second loss of the season Friday night, the No. 3-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team rebounded Saturday morning with a quick 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist to advance to the championship round of the American Southwestern Conference Tournament. The Comets handled ETBU, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18.

The Comets (now 28-2) will next face tournament host Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first of two possible championship matches in the double-elimination event at 2 p.m. With a win, UTD would force an "if necessary" match against the Cru at 6 p.m. for a second straight ASC title.

Senior middle blocker Michelle Toro finished with 18 kills against ETBU while freshman outside hitter Dylan Brinkman added 12 kills as the Comets advanced to the ASC title match for the third straight season and seventh time in program history. UTD hit .252 as a team against the Tigers, finishing with eight blocks and six service aces.

After a slow start to the match, edging the Tigers, 25-23, UTD got back to form with a 25-13 win in the second set, hitting .378 as a squad in the lop-sided victory. Toro had seven kills in the second stanza while Brinkman added five kills to lift the Comets to a quick 2-0 advantage. Toro finished the match with eight kills while Brinkman had six kills in the deciding third set.

Toro hit .471 for the match, adding three blocks and a pair of digs while Brinkman collected 18 digs and hit .235. Libero Briana Tully recorded a match-high 21 digs while setters Caroline Shecterle and Fayna Zeng each had 23 assists.
