Comets Pull Away From Sul Ross State For 4th Straight Victory

ALPINE, TX (12.19.16) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team outscored Sul Ross State by 17 points in the second half after holding a one-point halftime lead in a 70-52 road win over the host Lady Lobos Monday afternoon, improving to 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (6-2) have now rolled off four straight victories and will look for a fifth Wednesday afternoon when they visit non-conference rival Austin College. Game time is 2 p.m. in Sherman.

Alyssa Crockett led all scorers with 20 points, hitting 4-of-7 three-pointers, for the Comets. Micaela Gonzalez had 13 points, Kayla Reinhart had 11 points and Zavier Landry had 10 points to round out four UTD players in double digits. Reinhart grabbed a game-best nine rebounds while Landry had six assists.

Leading by just one point, 25-24, at the break, the Comets outscored SRSU, 20-9, in the third period to take a commanding 45-33 advantage into the final quarter. UTD then finished with a 25-point fourth period to ice the victory and knock off one of the top teams from the ASC's West Division. The Lady Lobos fell to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in ASC play with Monday's loss.

With the game knotted at 29-29 with six minutes left in the third quarter, the Comets finished the frame on a 16-4 run, getting field goals from five different players during the stretch. UTD never led by fewer than six points in the final period as the Comets were 4-for-9 from three-point range in the final 10 minutes.

UTD finished the afternoon shooting just 38.2 percent (26-of-68) from the field, but hit nine three-pointers and were 9-of-15 (60%) from the foul line. The Comets out-rebounded SRSU, 42-32, and forced 17 turnovers.
