Comets Roll Past Ozarks For 90-68 Win In ASC Opener

RICHARDSON, TX (12.03.16) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team scored 90 points for the second straight outing, but was on the winning side Saturday afternoon as the Comets earned a strong 90-68 home win over previously unbeaten Ozarks in their American Southwest Conference opener.

The Comets (1-4, 1-0 ASC) snapped a four-game losing skid to open season by shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and draining a season-best 14 three-pointers against the visiting Eagles. UTD returns to action Monday night with a road game at NCAA Division I foe Texas-Arlington. Game time is 7 p.m. at the College Park Center in Arlington.

UTD shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field in the opening half to build a 40-24 lead over the Eagles (4-1, 1-1 ASC) at the break. The hit eight three-pointers in the second half en route to a 50-point period to complete the 22-point victory. Senior Kyle Coulter led all scorers with 19 points, sparking four Comets in double digits. Reagan Keogh had a double-double with 11 points and a game-best 12 rebounds while Dimitrius Underwood added 11 points and Caleb Banks finished with 10 points and nine assists.

After a slow start by the both teams, sitting tied 16-16 with 9:34 left in the first half, the Comets rolled off eight straight point to secure a 24-16 advantage after Coulter jumper at the 5:30 mark. UTD secured its first double-digit lead of the afternoon with 3:49 left before the break at 29-19 and finished the half on a 13-5 run.

The Comets' first 20-point lead of the game came just 1:10 into the second half as Banks used a four-point play to kick off the scoring in the second half. UTD extended their lead to as many as 35 points, 85-50 with 4:19 to play, in the second half.

UTD ended the game shooting 48.5 percent (33-of-68) from the field and 41.2 percent (14-of-34) from three-point range in the victory. UTD was 10-of-19 (52.6%) from the free-throw line.
