Comets Complete Weekend Sweep of HSU After Pair of Saturday Wins

ABILENE, TX (02.20.16) - The UT Dallas softball team used a pinch-hit double by Brittany Perkins in Saturday's first game and a two-home run performance by Sara Morales in the series final to complete a weekend sweep of Hardin-Simmons and stay perfect in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (now 7-4, 6-0 ASC) extended their winning streak to seven straight games and will look to set a new program for consecutive wins when they host new ASC member Belhaven for a three-game series next weekend. The two squads will open the series with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday before the series finale at 12 p.m. Saturday, all at the UTD softball field.

GAME 1 - UTD 4, HSU 3
With the Comets trailing HSU, 3-2, heading to the 7th, Perkins was called on to pinch hit with one out and the bases loaded. Perkins delivered with a double to left field on the first pitch she saw to lift UTD to the win.

UTD opened the scoring in the 1st inning as Taylor Ervin doubled in Livermore. Ervin would later score in the frame on a wild pitch to give the Comets an early 2-0 lead. HSU answered with three runs in the 2nd, including a two-run double by Mak Lunsford.

After four scoreless frames, the Comets loaded the bases in the 7th thanks to an HSU error, a Margeaux Petrash single and a walk drawn by Melissa Livermore.

The Cowgirls would load the bases in the bottom of the 7th, but UTD pitcher Lauren McLeod (4-2) forced a pop up by Kara LeLeux to short leftfield and Comet shortstop Heather Gilbert threw out the potential game-tying HSU runner at the plate.

GAME 2 - UTD 7, HSU 3
Morales blasted her second and third home runs of the season as she sparked the Comets to a 7-3 win over HSU to complete the weekend sweep of the Cowgirls.

Morales' first long ball of the game came in the top of the 2nd to ignite a four-run inning by the Comets. UTD added a bases-loaded single by Samantha Halliburton, a bases-loaded walk by Livermore and an RBI fielder's choice by Ervin to take a 4-0 lead.

Ervin would then expand the Comets' lead to 5-0 with an RBI single to center field in the 4th, scoring Livermore.

After the host Cowgirls scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, Morales became the seventh UTD player to record a multi-home run game as she launched another solo shot in the 5th to give the Comets a 6-1 advantage.

HSU scored a run in the 6th on a wild pitch, but the Comets answered in the top of the 7th on a Gilbert single to center, scoring Chelsea Sartor. The Cowgirls plated a run in the bottom of the 7th to complete the scoring.
