PINEVILLE, LA (04.22.16) - Freshman outfielder
Melissa Livermore became the American Southwest Conference single-season steals leader Friday night as the Comets grabbed two road wins over Lousiana College, 3-0 and 7-1, to open a weekend three-game series.
The Comets (now 21-18, 17-12 ASC) can now finish no worse than fourth place in the league this season and can secure the No. 3 seed in next week's ASC Tournament with a third win over Louisiana College or a LeTourneau loss on Saturday. The series finale with the Lady Cats will start at 12 p.m.
Livermore finished Friday's twin bill with five stolen bases, giving her 44 swipes on the season with at least three games left on the slate, including the postseason tournament. The previous ASC single season record of 43 steals was set by Tonya Minor of East Texas Baptist in 2004. Livermore is now averaging 1.13 steals per game, which would break another league record (1.00, Mississippi College's Shay Mickens in 2014). As a team, the Comets now have a school-record 109 steals on the season, nine shy of the league record of 118 set by Lousiana College in 2010.

Livermore finished the game 3-for-4 with three steals, breaking the ASC record with her final stolen base of the contest in the 4th inning.
The Comets opened the scoring with a three-run 3rd and added two runs in the 4th before finishing the game with single runs in both the 6th and 7th innings. In the 3rd, Hudec opened the scoring with an RBI ground out, scoring

Kendall Moore would lead off the 4th with a double, followed by a
Heather Gilbert single, before Sara Morales picked up two RBI with a double to left. Livermore would then reach on a Lady Cat error before collecting the record-breaking steal. UTD added a pinch-hit RBI double by
Samantha Halliburton, scoring Livermore, in the 6th and an RBI double by Moore in the 7th, scoring Navarro.
