AUSTIN, TX (04.09.16) - The UT Dallas softball team took advantage of a couple of Concordia Texas miscues and rode the three-hit pitching of
Lauren McLeod to a 4-0 shutout win over the Tornados to wrap up a weekend American Southwest Conference series Saturday afternoon.
With the win, UTD (17-17, 13-11 ASC) reclaimed the .500 mark overall and kept pace in its bid for a post-season berth in the upcoming ASC Championship Tournament. Concordia fell to 8-26, 5-19 ASC. It marked the Comets' second straight series win.
McLeod (11-7) limited the Tornados to just three hits, striking out five for her second win in two days. The shutout was McLeod's seventh and her 16th complete game of the season.
The Comets got all the runs they would need in the top of the 2nd inning as
Sara Navarro singled and came home on a
Kendall Moore RBI single. UTD added a run in the 3rd when
Taylor Ervin led off with a walk, stole second base and then scored when
Ravin Wilson laced a triple to the right-center gap.
Moore was again the UTD catalyst in the 6th, picking up a two-out single, then scoring on an error by the CTX center fielder following a
Heather Gilbert single. Wilson then iced the win with a 7th-inning single, stolen base and a run following the Tornados second error of the game.
Wilson finished the game 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a triple. Navarro was 2-for-3 while Moore was perfect at 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. She finished the series hitting .750 (6-for-8).
The Comets returns to ASC play next weekend when they host The University of the Ozarks in their final homestand of the season. The series opens with a 6 pm single game Friday followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
