COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (09.10.16) - The 14th-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team kept its early season record unblemished Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Springfield, but suffered its first loss later in the day with a 3-1 defeat to No. 5-ranked Colorado College. The Comets would close out the Colorado College Invitational with a 2-2 mark.

The Comets (now 5-1) will look to bounce back Tuesday night when they host Austin College at 7 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, SPRINGFIELD 0
UTD broke free in all three sets for a three-set sweep over the Springfield College Pride, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22. The Comets (now 5-0) hit .254 as a team, putting down 71 kills, while holding the Pride to a .126 afternoon. Toro paced UTD with 18 kills, making just two errors in the three-set match.
Abbie Barth added 13 kills along with 10 digs while freshman Caroline Shechterle was credited with 43 assists.
The Comets broke loose in Set 1 after a 13-13 tie, scoring 12 of the next 18 points as Toro and
Dylan Brinkman combined for 12 kills. UTD opened the match by hitting .630 in Set 1.
Five straight kills from Toro pulled UTD out to an early 12-5 lead and the Comets finished off The Pride for another 25-19 win. In the final set, Springfield held the early lead before UTD finally tied the score at 16-16. The set was still tied at 21-21 before UTD finished it off on a 4-1 run.
MATCH 2 - COLORADO COLLEGE 3, UTD 1
The host Tigers looked to be on their was to a quick win over UTD before the Comets erased a late six-point deficit to grab the opening set, 25-23. However CC answered with three strong wins to hand UTD its first loss of the young season.
The Tigers would respond with 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22, to improve to 8-0.
Toro paced the Comets with 12 kills, leading four UTD hitters in double digits. Brinkman, Zeng and
Holyn Handley each added 10 kills. The Comets matched CC block-for-block, with
Shelby Walker finishing with six total rejections.
After hitting .204 as a team in the opening stanza, the Comets would finish the match hitting just .106 after round sets two and three. UTD bounced back with a .170 hitting percentage in the fourth set, but could not force a fifth frame, despite nearly erasing another late deficit.
