RICHARDSON, TX (09.28.16) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team took a break from American Southwest Conference play Wednesday night for a 3-1 home victory over Austin College.
Three different Comets scored as UTD ended the night outshooting the Lady 'Roos, 25-13. Senior
Megan Mugavero opened the scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the year before
Tori Edge and
Stephanie White each added their first tallies of the season.
Mugavero's goal came in the 28th minute as she accepted a cross from the right from teammate
Millie Atkins and beat a diving AC keeper to the left. Edge then doubled the Comets lead to 2-0 in the 33rd minute as she struck home a rebounded shot by Atkins. White's first collegiate goal came in the 70th minute as
Jacquie Kaufman centered a ball from the left, which was redirected by Mugavero, finding White alone behind the Lady 'Roo defense.
Austin College (now 2-7-1) avoided the shutout with a goal by Sarah Battles in the 86th minute, assisted by Erin Eckart.
UTD ended the night with 17 shots on goal, compared to just six by the Lady 'Roos, as White and
Melissa Fulfer each finished with a team-best four shots. Comet starting keeper
Monica Dallacasa made two saves in a scoreless first half while
Kristi Istre gave up one goal with three saves in the second half.
The Comets (now 5-3) return to ASC play Friday when they visit No. 21-ranked Hardin-Simmons. Game time is 2 p.m. in Abilene.
