Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comet Women Have Winning Streak Snapped With Home Loss to UMHB

RICHARDSON, TX (01.16.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team had its school-record 11-game winning streak come to an end Monday afternoon with a 63-49 home loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (13-3, 8-1 ASC) will look to bounce back Thursday night when they host East Texas Baptist in their return to divisional action. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD was held under 30 percent shooting for just the second time this season as the Comets finished the game just 17-of-65 from the field and 6-of-26 (23.1%) from three-point range in Monday's loss. Micaela Gonzalez and Alyssa Crockett each finished with 10 points to lead UTD while Victoria Pena and Kayla Reinhart each added  six points. Crockett led UTD with seven rebounds and three assists.

The visiting Cru (11-5, 4-3 ASC) controlled the lead for the majority of the contest, taking an early 8-2 lead over UTD. The Comets drew within two point, 12-10, at the end of the opening frame as neither team would shot 30 percent in the quarter. The Comets grabbed their first lead of the game at the 9:41 mark of the second quarter on a Reinhart three-pointer, but the lead was short-lived as UMHB took back control on a three-pointer by Jonelle Smith with 5:08 remaining the half to lift the Cru to a 22-20 advantage. UTD would take back the lead late in the quarter and hold a 32-30 lead at the break thanks to a three-pointer by Pena with five seconds on the clock.

UMHB took the lead for good just 47 seconds into the third quarter on a lay up by Smith and would lead by as many as nine points in the period before the Comets would claw back within two points, 46-44, on a buzz-beater three-pointer by Crockett. But, the Cru would hold UTD scoreless for more than five minutes to open the final quarter as they pulled away for the victory.
