Comets Keep Rolling with 76-48 Home Win Over Belhaven

RICHARDSON, TX (01.26.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team put a cap on its four-game home stand Thursday night with a 76-48 home win over Belhaven at the UTD Activity Center.

The Comets (16-3) held a fifth opponent this season under 50 points as they limited BU to 27.5 percent from the field in Thursday's victory. After four straight home games, UTD opens a four-game road swing Monday night when they visit Ozarks in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

Alyssa Crockett led four Comets in double figures as she ended the night with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Kayla Reinhart finished with 15 points while Micaela Gonzalez had a double-double with 11 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Victoria Pena added 10 points to round out the UTD players in double digits. UTD shot 41.8 percent from the field and out-rebounded the visiting Blazers (10-8), 47-33.

After falling behind 6-0 in the first four minutes, the Comets used a 17-2 run to end the opening quarter to take a commanding 17-8 lead at the first break and never looked back as they picked up their sixth win by more than 20 points this season. UTD then outscored the Blazers, 18-12, in the second quarter to secure a 35-20 lead at intermission.

The Comets would take their first 20-point lead of the night with 1:16 left in the third quarter when Gonzalez drained a jumper to lift UTD to a 58-38 lead. The Comets would by at least 20 points throughout the final period.

UTD ended the night 23-of-55 from the field, hitting 5-of-15 three-pointers (33.3%), and were 25-of-38 (65.8%) from the free-throw line. The Comets have now won 14 of their last 15 games.
