CLARKSVILLE, AR (01.30.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team collected its 15th win in 16 games Monday night with a 72-52 road victory over Ozarks in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets (17-3, 11-1 ASC) now hold a full three-game lead in the ASC East over second-place Texas-Tyler (8-4), with four league games left, and will look for a fifth straight victory Saturday afternoon with a road game at Belhaven.
UTD got off to a hot start, opening the game with a 7-0 run, and continued to dominate the Lady Eagles throughout the contest as the Comets held host Ozarks to just 28.8 percent shooting from the field and 1-for-11 accuracy from three-point range.
McKenzie Petty came off the bench to lead all scorers with a season-high 15 points, hitting 6-of-7 shots, and added five rebounds for the Comets.
Kayla Reinhart was the only other UTD player in double figures, finishing with 13 points thanks to four three-pointers.
Alyssa Crockett and
Victoria Pena each finish with nine points. Crockett grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds.
Reinhart scored five of the Comets' first seven points as UTD forced a quick Lady Eagle timeout with 7:42 left in the opening quarter. The Comets would roll out to a 22-9 lead after the opening quarter and then dominated the second period, 16-7, pull away for a 38-16 halftime advantage.
The Comets ended the night shooting 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, connecting on 6-of-14 three-pointers (42.9%), and shot 80 percent (12-of-15) from the foul line. UTD out-rebounded the Lady Eagles, 42-36.
