Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Comet Men Edged By Reigning ASC Champ Hardin-Simmons

RICHARDSON, TX (01.07.17) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team dropped another heartbreaker in American Southwest Conference play Saturday afternoon, falling at home to defending American Southwest Conference champion Hardin-Simmons, 75-68.

The Comets (3-10, 2-4 ASC) now have four close losses in ASC play this season, none my more than seven points, and will look to bounce back Thursday night when they visit rival Texas-Tyler. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Tyler.

UTD controlled the opening half, shooting 44.7 percent as a team before the break, to secure a 42-37 lead over the visiting Cowboys (11-4, 5-1 ASC). However, HSU shot 52.2 percent as a squad in the second to flip the game and grab a fifth straight victory.

Freshman Dimitrius Underwood led the Comets with 19 points off the bench while senior starters Reagan Keogh and Kyle Coulter each added 13 points in the defeat. Keogh led UTD with seven boards while Caleb Banks dished out five assists. The Comets ended the afternoon shooting just 35.1 percent (26-of-74) from the field, hitting just 4-of-27 (14.8%) three-pointers, but shot 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the foul line.

The Comets did hold HSU to just 6-of-17 three-pointers (35.3%) Saturday, two days after the Cowboys set a new ASC single-game record with 28 three-pointers in a 135-95 rout of Ozarks Thursday night. HSU finished Saturday's game shooting 48.1 percent (26-of-54) and were 17-of-18 (94.4%) from the line as both team hit their free throws.

Leading by five points at the break, the Comets held their advantage until the 14:30 mark of the second half when Justin Jones dunked the Cowboys to a 49-48 lead. UTD regained the lead on its next possession on an Underwood lay up and regained a four-point lead with 13:41 left on a Dapo Ogunfeitimi bucket, 53-49.  However, HSU would use a 8-0 to turn things around and give the Cowboys the lead.
