Comets Win 9th Straight With 78-59 Victory Over Hardin-Simmons

RICHARDSON, TX (01.07.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team held a 13th straight opponent under 60 points as the Comets earned a 78-59 home win over Hardin-Simmons Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (11-2, 6-0 ASC) are now riding a nine-game winning streak and will look to match a school record for consecutive wins Thursday when they visit rival Texas-Tyler. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Tyler.

Visiting HSU (6-8, 2-4 ASC) took early control of the contest, even grabbing a 13-5 lead with 5:37 left in the opening period before the Comets charged back. UTD would finish the first frame on a 7-0 run to secure a 21-18 lead after 10 minutes. The Comets would lead the remainder of the game after outscoring HSU, 18-15, in the second quarter, to take a 39-33 lead into the locker room.

With 5:59 left in the third period, McKenzie Petty lifted the Comets to a 47-35 with a three-pointer and UTD would not lead by fewer than 10 points for the rest of the afternoon. The Comets led by as many as 24 points in the fourth before settling for the 19-point victory.

UTD finished the day shooting 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field while hitting 8-of-18 (44.4%) three-pointers. The Comets have now held every opponent this season under 60 points and lead the ASC in scoring defense, giving up just 51.8 points per game.

Senior Micaela Gonzalez led all scorers with 20 points along with seven rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Alyssa Crockett added 14 points, Zavier Landry had 12 points and Kayla Reinhart had 10 points. Crockett dished out four assists.
