RICHARDSON, TX (10.07.17) - The No. 22-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team picked up its eighth win in nine matches Saturday afternoon as the Comets celebrated Senior Day at the Activity Center with a 3-0 win over Belhaven University in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets hit an impressive .271 as a squad to collect their third straight sweep and improve to 8-2 in the ASC East Division standings, holding on to the top spot with six matches left to play. UTD is square with rival Texas-Tyler in first place in the division, but hold the tie-breaker over the Patriots thanks to a 3-0 win on Sept. 26.
UTD stormed out of the game with a 25-11 win in the opening set and then cruised to a 25-14 victory in the second stanza before the intermission. The Comets rallied from behind in the third set to earn a 25-20 win and secure the 3-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Comets tied a season-high with nine services in the sweep, led by freshman
Miranda Mendez who finished with four aces, all in the second set. Mendez had three straight aces in the set to help UTD pull way for the 25-14 win.
KEY PLAYERS
Junior
Sydney Riordan led the Comets in kills for the second straight match as she was the only player to reach double-digit kills, with 10 putaways in the short match.
Emma Wallbrown and
Lauren Schilling each added nine kills while
Alex Nolan and
Alana Geymer contributed eight kills each in a balanced attack.

The Comets (14-4, 8-2 ASC) will look to avenge its only ASC East loss of the season Tuesday night when they host East Texas Baptist. Match time is 7 p.m.
