CONWAY, AR (12.31.17) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon as the Comets dropped a 78-68 decision at Hendrix in non-conference play.
Trailing by 36-28 at the half, the Comets rallied early in the second period to eventually grab a 50-49 lead at the midway points after a Hans Burwitz lay up. UTD extended its lead to as many as five points, 54-49, with 8:24 remaining thanks to a Kelden Pruitt bucket, however the host Warriors responded with five quick points to knot the game with just more than seven minutes left to play.
The two teams then traded leads before Hendrix took the lead for good with 3:39 left after a three-pointer by Preston Smith. The Warriors ended the game on a 17-7 run over the final four minutes of play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Comets finished the game shooting 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field, but connected on just 4-of-17 (23.5%) shots from three-point range. UTD was 18-of-26 (69.2%) from the free-throw line.
UTD out-rebounded the Warriors, 37-31, and committed just nine turnovers, but the Comets got out-gunned in the paint, 38-26.
KEY PERFORMERS
Caleb Banks led four Comets in double digits with a team-high 16 points, along with seven assists.
Jon Hatcher added 14 points, Dimitrius Underwood had 13 points and
Reagan Keogh finished with 12 points. Underwood and Keogh each led UTD with nine rebounds.
NEXT GAME
The Comets (8-4) return to action Thursday, Jan. 11, when they open American Southwest Conference East Division play at East Texas Baptist. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Marshall.
