MARSHALL, TX (02.11.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team secured its first American Southwest Conference East Division title in eight seasons Saturday afternoon with a 66-49 road win over East Texas Baptist.
The Comets (20-3, 13-1 ASC) have two games left in the regular season before heading to the ASC Tournament, Feb. 23-25, at West Division champ Howard Payne. UTD will host LeTourneau Thursday and Texas-Tyler Saturday to close out the regular season.
Alyssa Crockett scored a game-high 19 points to lead three Comets in double digits as UTD picked up its seventh straight victory.
Kayla Reinhart added 15 points while
Katie Gunther had 10 points as the Comets have now won 18 of their last 19 games after a 2-2 start to the season.
UTD shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field and hit 5-of-16 three-pointers (31.3%) as the Comets recorded their 18th double-digit victory this season and held an eighth opponent to 50 points or fewer. UTD held the host Tigers to just 33.3 percent (17-of-51) accuracy from the field and only 2-of-13 (15.4%) from three-point range.
The Comets trailed ETBU just one in the game, falling behind 5-4 with 8:17 left in the first quarter, but quickly pulled away from the Tigers. UTD grabbed a 21-11 lead after the opening period and extended its lead by as many as 23 points in the second quarter before setting for a 44-24 lead at intermission. The Comets led by no fewer than 17 points in the second half.
Reinhart nearly recorded her second double-double of the season as she pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while
Micaela Gonzalez also had nine rebounds and four assists.
The Comets last won the ASC's East Division in 2008-09.
