Livermore Ties SB Mark, Hits Inside-The-Park HR in DH Sweep

IRVING, TEXAS (02.28.17) The UT Dallas softball team got back on the winning track Tuesday night, sweeping the University of Dallas, 8-0 and 10-2, in a pair of "run rule" wins. The Comets took advantage of six Crusader errors and pounded out 23 hits in the two five-inning games.

The night was highlighted by Melissa Livermore, who not only tied the UTD (13-3) career stolen base record with a pair of swipes, but blew open the first game with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the 5th inninng (SEE VIDEO). Livermore, only a sophomore, brought her career stolen base total to 77, tying former Comet Amber Griffin, who played for four seasons (2005-08).

UTD returns to its home field this weekend for an American Southwest Conference series against LeTourneau. The Comets and YellowJackets meet in a single game Friday, which has been rescheduled to 1 pm due to the UTD women's basketball NCAA tournament games Friday evening. The two teams will play a 12 noon doubleheader on Saturday.

GAME 1: UTD 8, U.DALLAS 0

Four early UD errors were all the Comets needed to jump out to a 5-0 lead after just three innings and cruise to an 8-0, five-inning shutout of the host Crusaders. A pair of errors in the 1st inning allowed UTD to score two unearned runs. Then, in the 3rd, Brittany Perkins set the stage with a double, and two more hits and a pair of errors later, the Comets led 5-0.

Perkins again doubled in the 4th inning, and came home off a Stephanie Polderman RBI single. Then, after Ravin Wilson singled to start the 5th, Livermore sent a scorcher up the middle that got past the center fielder's shift and she raced around the bases without a throw. Elizabeth Brann later delivered a pinch-hit RBI hit to round out the scoring.

The strong offense made an easy winner of Lauren McLeod (8-0), who struck out six and didn't give up her second hit of the game until an infield single in the 5th.

Livermore, Perkins and shortstop Heather Gilbert all had two hits. Livermore finished with three RBI while Perkins scored three times.

GAME 2: UTD 10, U.DALLAS 2

The UTD offense again took little time in taking control, scoring three runs before the Crusaders ever stepped to the plate. UTD got a three-run, three-hit inning in the 1st; then added three more runs on four hits in the 3rd and 5th innings to end the nightcap early.

Kendall Moore was the hitting star, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and 3 RBI after driving in two with a 3rd inning double. Polderman and Gilbert also had two hits apiece.

Brann drove in one of the 1st inning runs, and Wilson and Sarah Morales contributed RBI hits in the 5th.

UTD made a winner out of Allie Stephens (4-2), who threw the first four innings and struck out three. Sara Davison finished the game with a perfect inning of relief.
