Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comets Earn Another Big Win, Cruise Past Louisiana College, 72-44

PINEVILLE, LA (02.09.17) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team locked up at least a share of the American Southwest Conference East Division title Thursday night with a 72-44 road win over Louisiana College.

The Comets (19-3, 12-1 ASC) need just one win in the final three contests to claim the divisional crown outright and will have their first shot Saturday afternoon when they visit East Texas Baptist. Game time is 1 p.m. in Marshall.

UTD got off to a slow start, falling behind the host Wildcats by six points on two occasions in the opening quarter, before taking its first lead at 15-14 with a free throw by Alyssa Crockett to close the period. The Comets then dominated the second frame, 22-7, to secure a 16-point lead at the break, 37-21.

The Comets' momentum carried over into the second half as UTD would grab its first 20-point lead of the night, 49-29, after a pair of Zavier Landry free throws with 2:13 left in the third quarter. The Comets led by no fewer than 19 points in the final period and led by as many as 32 points late in the contest.

Crockett led UTD with game-high 20 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. Victoria Pena finished with 17 points, hitting five three-pointers, while Micaela Gonzalez added 10 points. Kayla Reinhart grabbed a team-high nine rebounds while Landry had six assists.

The Comets have now won back-to-back road meetings over LC for the first time in nearly a decade after wrapping up a season sweep of the Wildcats for the second straight season.
