RICHARDSON, TX (03.17.17) - The No. 13 UT Dallas baseball team celebrated the greenest day of the year Friday afternoon with an 8-0 win over LeTourneau to kick off a three-game weekend American Southwest Conference series.
The Comets (16-4, 5-2 ASC) will wrap up the set with the YellowJackets with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the UTD Baseball Field.
Junior right-hander
Jamie Andriot (5-0) kept his spotless record after fanning 11 while giving up just four hits in seven scoreless innings to open the game for the Comets.
Logan McPherson and
Junior Escobar each tossed a scoreless inning as the Comets recorded their fourth shutout victory of the season.
The Comets opened the scoring with two runs in the 3rd and blew open the game with a six-run fifth inning as they amassed eight hits off of three LETU hurlers.
Ryan Burciaga and
Rodney Corbin were each 2-for-4 from the plate while Burciaga and
Barry Casey each picked up two RBI.
In the 3rd, the Comets picked up their first run of the game on a
Josh Covey double to left center. Covey would later score on a Burciaga single to left. UTD then scored six runs on five hits and a YellowJacket error in the 5th to secure the win. UTD scored three runs on back-to-back pitches as Burciaga plated
Isaiah Swann with a bases-loaded bloop single to right and Casey followed with a two-run single up the middle, giving the Comets a 5-0 advantage. UTD added an RBI single by
Connor Scruggs, a sacrifice fly by
Garrett Uhl and a run on a LETU throwing error on a pickoff attempt.
