RICHARDSON, TX (09.01.17) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team picked up a pair of goals early in the second half as the Comets opened the 2017 season Friday night with a 2-1 home win over Grove City.
The Comets (1-0) return to action Sunday at 5 p.m. when they host North Central College at the UTD Soccer Field.
After a scoreless opening half, junior
Jacquie Kaufman put the Comets on the board with a slicing shot past the Wolverine keeper to lift UTD to a 1-0 advantage in the 59th minute. Fellow junior
Melissa Fulfer, who assisted Kaufman's goal, later tallied what proved to be the game winner in the 64th minute as she slipped a shot under the crossbar and over leaping keeper, thanks to an entry pass from Kaufman.
UTD ended the night with 21 shots, compared to 15 by the Wolverines, and collected nine shots on frame.
Keely Fillman came off the bench for a game-high six shots, three on goal, while Fulfer had four shots and Kaufman finished with three shots. With her assist Friday night, Fulfer (19) moved into seventh place on the Comets' career assists list.
Grove City (0-1) cut the lead in half in the 87th minute on a late goal by Megan Van Kirk as she beat UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa after a cross from the left by teammate Krista Heckman. Dallacasa finished the night with five saves, all coming in the second half.
