RICHARDSON, TX (09.23.17) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team has now outscored its opponents 22-0 during the Comets' current four-game winning streak after a 5-0 home victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play, improving to 4-0 in ASC play for the first time since 2004.
Junior
Melissa Fulfer scored her team-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season and added a pair of assists in the lop-sided victory as four players had goals against the Wildcats. The Comets tallied three goals in the opening half on 26 shots and added two second-half goals on 23 more shots. In total, UTD out-shot the Wildcats, 49-0, in the win with a season-high 24 shots on goal.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a
Jacquie Kaufman header off a free kick from Fulfer. Fufler then made it 2-0 in the 24th minute by beating the LC keeper one-on-one made possible by an entry pass from teammate
Keely Fillman. UTD's final first-half goal came in the 29th minute when
Maya Fuller scored off a rebound of a
Bailee Davis shot.
UTD extended its lead to 4-0 in the 47th minute when
Stephanie White found the back of the net after a cross from the left by Fulfer and a redirect by Kaufman. Fulfer then ended the scoring in the 64th minute thanks to a cross from
Alyssa Kolvitz.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Comets' 49 shots in Saturday's victory was a season high, topping the squad's 36 shots in Thursday night's 10-0 home win over Belhaven. UTD held an opponent without a shot for the first time since Sept. 27, 2014, when the Comets defeated Ozarks, 6-0. The Comets have given up just two shots over the past three contests. UTD also took a season-high 15 corner kicks in the win.
UTD opened the season with eight goals in its first five contests. After Saturday's 6-0 win over Ozarks, a 10-0 win over Belhaven Thursday and today's 5-0Â victory, UTD has now scored 21 goals in the last 270 minutes of action. UTD had a season-high 16 players record a shot against the Wildcats and 13 different players with a shot on goal, also a season high.
The Comets are 7-1 for the first time since the 2014 season. UTD's 4-0 start to league play is the best since 2004 when the Comets opened the league slate 5-0. The best league start in program history is 8-0 in 2002.
KEY PLAYERS:
Davis came of the bench for a game-high six shots, two on frame, while White, Fulfer, Fuller and
Abby Westin each took five shots. Fulfer had a team-best five shots on goal.
LC keeper Haley Clark made 15 saves before leaving the contest in the 68th minute. Wildcat backup Lexi Tate made four saves.
