RICHARDSON, TEXAS (09.30.17) - The UTD women's soccer team scored twice in the first 12:06 of its Saturday American Southwest Conference match with Howard Payne, and made the lead stand for a 2-0 win over Howard Payne.
The win - the Comets' fifth straight - improved UTD's record to 9-1, 5-0 in ASC play. Howard Payne fell to 4-3-1, 3-2 ASC.
Sophomore
Stephanie White got the game-winner just 9:24 into the match, beating Yellowjacket keeper Nicole Goodwin one-on-one after a feed from
Michelle Lee. Less than three minutes later, freshman
Keely Fillman scored her fourth goal of the season, knocking in a header off a
Melissa Fulfer corner kick and a redirect by
Jessica Rusk.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Comets dominated possession, outshooting HPU, 48-6. Goodwin made 13 saves for the Jackets while UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa stopped the only shot on goal the Jackets could muster, improving to 9-1 on the season. The Comets forced 13 corner kicks, surviving two from HPU.
KEY PERFORMERS: Both Rusk and Fillman led the Comets with eight shots each, while Lee picked up five shots (including two on goal). HPU's Lesly Garcia was the only Jacket with multiple shots, totaling three.
UP NEXT: UTD faces a pair of ASC foes on the road next weekend. The Comets meet Concordia Texas in Austin on Thursday, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton Saturday afternoon. Both games start at 5 pm.
