Box Score 2 TYLER, TX (09.08.17) - The No. 18-ranked UT Dallas volleyball team improved to 4-2 on the young season Friday after picking up a pair of 3-1 victories to open the Dakotas Patriot Classic, hosted by Texas-Tyler.
The Comets kicked off the event with a 3-1 win over Texas Lutheran (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-12) and closed out the first day of competition with a 3-1 win over Rhodes (25-7, 28-30, 25-10, 25-14). UTD will return to the Patriot Center at 10 a.m. Saturday to face Birmingham-Southern before closing the event at 2 p.m. against Hendrix.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, Texas Lutheran 1
Lauren Schilling led the UTD offensive attack with a match-high 15 kills along with a .258 hitting percentage in the victory over the Bulldogs. Schilling added four total blocks and a pair of digs as she sparked three Comets in double-digit kills.
Emma Wallbrown added 14 kills while
Kristyn Schott finished with 11 kills. Setter
Caroline Shecterle dished out 45 assists (11.3 per set) as the Comets finished the contest with a .184 team hitting percentage.
MATCH 2 - UTD 3, Rhodes 1
Sydney Riordan led the Comets with 16 kills while Schott added 14 kills in a the four-set win over Rhodes. Schott hit .303 in the victory with a block and an ace while Wallbrown, Schilling and
Alex Nolan each had three blocks. The Comets hit an impressive .243 in the match with Shecterle ended the match with 52 assists (13.0 per set).
