No. 20 Comets Upset by SRSU, 2-1, For First Loss of Season

RICHARDSON, TX (10.18.18) - The No. 20-ranked UT Dallas women's soccer team was handed its first defeat of the season Thursday afternoon as the Comets dropped a 2-1 decision to Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets fell to 13-1-1 overall with Thursday's loss in their home finale and are now 7-1-1 against ASC foes with two games left in the regular season. UTD will return to action next Thursday when the Comets visit East Texas Baptist.

SRSU opened the scoring in the 13th minute as Aylin Villalobos lifted the Lady Lobos to an early 1-0 lead as she broke behind the UTD defense adn beat Comet keeper Monica Dallacasa one-on-one. The Lady Lobos would extend their lead to 2-0 before the break as Emily Mihlak scored on a run down the right side of the field in the 42nd minute, thanks to an assist from Kimberly Hubert.

The Comets eventually got on the board in the second half when Claire Walker cleaned up a miscue by the SRSU defense in the 73rd for her second tally of the season. However, UTD could not manage another late goal to extend the contest.

UTD was out-shot for the second time this season as the Lady Lobos held a 14-13 advantage. Both teams managed just five shots on goal on the wet surface.

Keely Fillman led the Comets with three shots, one on frame, while Jacquie Kaufman took two shots. Dallacasa finished with three saves.
