BOSSIER CITY, LA (10.26.18) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team secured a first-round playoff game in next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament after a 2-0 road win over East Texas Baptist Friday afternoon.
The Comets improved to 14-1-1 overall and 8-1-1 in ASC play heading into Saturday's regular-season finale at LeTourneau. Game time is 5:00 p.m. in Longview.
Jessica Rusk lifted UTD to an early lead as she tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 12th minute, as unassisted goal where Rusk broken through the Tiger defense and beat the ETBU keeper from 15 yards out. The Comets added an extra goal in the 49th minute as
Stephanie White pitched in with her sixth goal of the season, assisted by
Sofia Munoz, to ensure the victory.
The Comets recorded their 13th shutout in 16 games this season as they held host ETBU to nine shots, none of which were on frame. UTD ended the match with nine shots as well, six on goal. Rusk was the only Comet to record multiple shots on goal, finishing the game with two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rusk opened the scoring in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal, her seventh tally of the season.
- After holding a 1-0 halftime lead, White doubled the cushion just 3:16 into the second half with her sixth goal of the year, assisted by Munoz.
