LONGVIEW, TX (10.27.18) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team closed out the 2018 regular season Saturday night with a 3-1 road win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference play.
Keely Fillman scored twice for the Comets while
Jessica Rusk added another tally as UTD will now enter next week's ASC Tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 15-1-1 overall record and a 9-1-1 league mark.
The Comets will met up with East Texas Baptist, the ASC's No. 7 seed, at home Tuesday night to open the postseason. Game time is 5 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
Fillman opened the scoring quickly as she found net in the sixth minute to lift the Comets to an early 1-0 advantage, thanks to an entry pass from
Sofia Munoz. Rusk added her eighth goal of the season in the 60th minute with a header off a
Bailee Davis corner kick. Fillman's second goal of the game, and seventh of the season, came in the 66th minute on another header off a corner, this time sent in by
Tori Edge.
The YellowJackets avoided the shutout with a Victoria Ratliff goal in the 76th minute. LETU had a chance for a second goal in the 89th minute on a penalty kick, but Comet keeper
Monica Dallacasa made the save.
The Comets finished the night with 20 shots, 11 on frame, while holding LETU to just nine shots, five on goal. Fillman led UTD with six shots, four on goal, while
Bailee Davis took four shots and
Claire Walker came off the bench to take three shots. Dallacasa made four saves in a full 90-minute performance.
