RICHARDSON, TX (11.19.18) - There's no place like home for the UT Dallas men's basketball team as the Comets returned to the UTD Activity Center Monday night for a 93-56 non-conference home win over Schreiner.
The Comets improved to 2-1 after Monday's win, bouncing back from a loss last week in their only road contest of the season. UTD opened the 2018-19 campaign with a 104-60 home win over Hendrix nine days ago.
UTD led wire-to-wire as the squad finished the night shooting 58.3 percent as a team from the field, hitting 8-of-22 from three-point range. Junior
Hans Burwitz led four Comets in double digits with a game-high 18 points and three rebounds.
Dimitrius Underwood finished with 16 points along with a game-best eight rebounds while
Kelden Pruitt came off the bench for 15 points and Xavier Ferrel added 10 points.
The Comets scored the first 11 points of the game and held off Schreiner's only true rally of the night midway through the first half before securing a 20-point cushion, 49-29, at the break. UTD was an impressive 17-of-28 (60.7%) from the floor over the first 20 minutes of play, going 11-for-14 from the line.Â
UTD took little time to extend its lead to 30 points, snagging a 61-31 lead with 15:20 left to play after a break-away dunk by Underwood. The Comets extended their lead to as many as 37 points before the halfway point of the second period and cruised to their big home victory of the season.
The Comets will hit the road again Wednesday as they open American Southwest Conference play at Hardin-Simmons. Tip-off is 1 p.m. in Abilene.
