BELTON, TX (11.02.18) - The UT Dallas volleyball team's run for a fourth straight conference title begin Friday morning with a 3-0 win over Concordia Texas in the Comets' opening match at the 2018 American Southwest Conference Tournament, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The Comets, the only remaining team from the ASC's East Division after Thursday's first-round matches, advance to the winner's bracket of the four-team double-elimination tournament and will next play at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of Mary Hardin-Baylor/McMurry match. UTD (now 22-8) is just two wins away from becoming just the second team in ASC volleyball history to collect four consecutive tournament titles.
UTD hit .239 as a team as the Comets' earned a quick 25-17, 25-17, 25-17, win over CTX, the No. 2 seed from the ASC's West Division.
Sydney Riordan and
Lauren Schilling each finished with a team-best nine kills.
Dylan Brinkman and
Alex Nolan each added seven kills in a balanced offensive attack by the Comets.
Caroline Shecterle dished out 19 assists while
Fayna Zeng added 16 assists in the Comes' 6-2 offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A quartet of Comets collected three kills each as UTD earned a 25-17 in the opening set. UTD hit .200 with 23 digs as the Comets set the tone for the match.
- Schilling sparked UTD with four kills in the second set, also a 25-17 win, adding a block, while the Comets hit .303 as a team.
- UTD closed the win with a 3-0 victory in the third set, getting three kills each from Riodan and Nolan. The Comets hit .229 to wrap up the sweep.
