WYLIE, TX (02.25.18) - The No. 22-ranked UT Dallas baseball team extended its winning streak to six games Sunday afternoon as the Comets opened American Southwest Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Belhaven, 6-2 and 5-3, at the Wylie East High School Baseball Field.

The Comets (6-4, 2-0 ASC) got stellar starts from seniors Jamie Andriot and Ruben Renteria in the twin bill while senior first baseman Barry Casey homered twice to lift UTD to the sweep of the Blazers (2-6, 0-2 ASC). Junior second baseman Ryan Burciaga went 4-for-6 over the two games, collecting there extra base hits.

The series finale between the two teams will be play at 1 p.m. Monday at the UTD Baseball Field.

GAME 1 - UTD 6, BU 2
Andriot struck out 10 Blazers while Burciaga was 2-for-2 with three runs scored as the Comets quickly dispatched BU, 6-2, in the series opener.

UTD opened the scoring with a two-run homer by Casey in the 1st inning and added two more runs in the 3rd on RBI hits by Burciaga and Connor Scruggs. The Blazers cut the lead to three runs, 4-1, in the top of the 4th, but UTD countered with an RBI single by Isaiah Swann in the bottom of the frame.

The Comets added an extra run in the 5th when Burciaga led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to left-center and later came home on a wild pitch.

Andriot (2-1) picked up his second straight win as he gave up one earned run on just two hits in a complete-game performance.

GAME 2 - UTD 5, BU 3
Renteria handled the Blazers through the first 7.1 innings of the second game on Sunday, collecting nine strikeouts of his own, while Casey blasted his second home run of the day in a 5-3 win over BU.

The Comets again opened the scoring in the 1st with a no-out, bases-loaded single to center by Scruggs, but would leave the bases loaded. UTD added two more runs in the 3rd on back-to-back long balls by Burciaga and Casey to lead off the Comets' half of the inning.

BU sent six batters to the plate in the 4th, but managed just one earned run off of Renteria as the Blazers cut the Comet lead to 3-1. But, UTD got the run back in the bottom half thanks to a Blazer error.
