Comets Take Outright ASC East Lead After 72-44 Win At Belhaven

JACKSON, MISS. (02.03.18) - With four games left in the regular season, the UT Dallas women's basketball team holds sole possession of the top spot in the American Southwest Conference's East Division after a 72-44 road win over Belhaven Saturday and a little help from around the league.

The Comets (18-3, 12-2 ASC) have now won 13 of their last 14 outings and are in control of their own destiny to host the ASC Tournament for the first time in program history. UTD entered Saturday in a tie for first place in the ASC East with East Texas Baptist, however the Tigers (11-3 ASC) dropped a 78-68 decision at Texas-Tyler (10-4 ASC). The Comets remained perfect against ASC East opponents this season, improving to 8-0 in divisional play. UTD's only conference losses this season came in crossover play.

UTD opened Saturday's game by doubling up the host Blazers, 20-10, in the opening quarter and never looked back as the Comets picked up their fourth straight victory. The Comets were able to jump out to a 38-20 lead at halftime, thanks to 5-of-10 accuracy from three-point range in the first 20 minutes of play. UTD would outscore the Blazers in each quarter and finished the afternoon shooting 42.4 percent from the field.
