CLARKSVILLE, AR (02.08.18) - In its third straight road game, the UT Dallas women's basketball team used a pair of lopsided quarters en route to an 81-51 road victory over Ozarks Thursday night in American Southwest Conference East Division play.
The Comets outscored Ozarks, 19-9, in the second half to secure a 39-23 advantage at the break and then used a 19-8 final stanza to lock down their third 30-point victory of the season, two of which came against the Eagles. UTD downed the Ozarks, 76-41, last month at home.
UTD finished with all five starts in double figures as the Comets used a balanced scoring attack, matching a season high with 81 points.
The Comets opened the game on an 8-3 run and never looked back. UTD snagged its first double-digit lead with 4:52 left in the opening half when
Victoria Pena lifted the Comets to a 29-17 advantage with her only three-pointer of the night. After taking a 16-point lead into the locker room, UTD did not lead by fewer than 11 points for the remainder of the contest, that coming early in the third quarter. The Comets expanded its lead to 20 points with just under five minutes left to play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
UTD finished the victory shooting 49.3 percent (35-of-71) from the field as team, hitting just five three-pointers. The Comets were just 6-of-16 (40%) from the free throw line. Steele led UTD with five assists while Pena finished with four steals.
The Comets out-rebounded Ozarks, 44-36, and dominated the paint, outscoring the Eagles, 52-16, in the lane. UTD scored 24 points off of 15 Eagle turnovers.
KEY PERFORMERS
In a balanced scoring attack, Pena and
Alexa Boushey led the Comets with 13 points.
Madison Steele and
Raenett Hughes each had 12 points while
Kelley Skinner finished with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for her second 'double-double' of the season.

The Comets (19-3, 13-2 ASC) will try for their second-straight and eight-ever 20-win season Saturday afternoon when they visit rival Texas-Tyler in the squad's final regular season road game. Tip-off is 2 p.m. in Tyler.
