RICHARDSON, TX (03.10.18) - The UT Dallas baseball team was handed a pair of losses Saturday afternoon as the Comets closed out a three-game non-conference series with Texas Lutheran.
After dropping Friday's series opener, 8-1, the Comets dropped both games on Saturday, 5-0 and 15-5. UTD (9-8) will continue non-conference play with a 3 p.m. home game with Millikin.
GAME 1 - TLU 5, UTD 0
The Comets managed just four hits off of TLU starter Nathan Malinovsky and failed to get a runner past second base in a 5-0 loss to the Bulldogs to open Saturday's twin bill.

Ruben Renteria (2-1) pitched 6.2 strong innings, giving five runs on six hits with five strikeouts while no Comet batter had a multi-hit performance. Malinovsky (3-1) struck out five with two walks.
GAME 2 - TLU 15, UTD 5 (7 inn.)
The wrapped up the weekend set with TLU with a 15-5, 7-inning defeat to the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.
The Comets collected 12 hits off of three TLU pitchers, but could not keep pace with the Bulldogs offense. TLU scored 15 runs on 19 hits as five different Comet pitchers took the mound.
Down 1-0 in the 1st, the Comets took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame thanks to a two-run single by
Connor Scruggs and an RBI single by
Luke Richter. However, TLU responded with 11 unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a 12-3 lead. The Bulldogs send 10 batters to the plate in each the 2nd and 3rd innings.
UTD got back on the board in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single by
Barry Casey, but the Bulldogs answered with a three-run sixth to grab a 15-4 advantage. The final run of the game came in the bottom of the 6th on a solo home run by
Isaiah Swann, the first of his career.
Cole Hanson (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work. Casey was 3-for-3 while
Rodney Corbin was 2-for-3 and
Ryan Burciaga was 2-for-4.
